4 Things To Do To Live Your Best Life (Like A Millionaire)

Once you have loads of money, what is next? It seems like everyone is in a rat race to the top but what happens when you have “made it”? You may have heard phrases like, “the grind never stops” or “I will sleep when I am dead” but is this kind of thinking effective or detrimental to our health? After observing a few millionaires, high earning employees, and reading tons of information about their behaviors, I learned that there are a few things we should do to maintain our mental health and well-being while we are on this journey to being wealthy.

Keep in mind that we all have different definitions of what it means to be wealthy and some of you are already there.

Legacy

After listening to podcasts like The Money Guy and reading random articles about millionaires, I noticed that one of the top concerns of millionaires is the legacy that they will leave behind. In other words, how do you want to be remembered and will your family be taken care of once you are gone. It is important to maintain your health so that you can accomplish your goals and build the legacy you desire for as long as you can. So, how do we do that? Here are the top actions you can start right now to start living a healthy millionaire lifestyle, even if you are not a millionaire. It does not hurt to start early!

Eat Your Veggies

Eat your vegetables and fruits as well. Millionaires often maintain a healthy diet to not only feel better but to avoid frequent, expensive hospital visits that can be resolved with proper diet. We all know that some things cannot be avoided when it comes to our health, no matter how healthy we eat. Things will happen but eating healthy are ways we can somewhat control the outcome of our health. For example, I have my days where I am completely vegetarian. Then, I will incorporate fish or chicken into my meals a few times during the week (usually only for dinner). I eat red meat every few months as I really do not crave steak, burgers, etc. I also only drink water during the day then I will have some juice or wine at dinner. You do not have to do what I do, but make sure to include leafy greens and fruits at some point during your daily meals. Your stomach will thank you, too.

Exercise

Okay, so this is an obvious action you can take to maintain your mental health and well-being while building wealth. Based on the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), it is recommended to exercise for 150 minutes each week, which is 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. Most people tend to work out in the morning before work or getting their day started. Others usually work out after work. I like to work out after work to clear my mind of all of the day’s shenanigans. I even incorporate yoga or mediation practices when I have some anxiety after the work day. Some of my coworkers like to go on 3 mile walks or play with their dogs in the dog park. Find something that you like to do just to get your heart rate up. With COVID-19 and being stuck in our homes, it can be hard to just get up off of the couch. I even have my days when I am a complete couch potato. Find a good workout video on YouTube and try your best!

Read Books, Journals, & Articles

Millionaires tend to read a lot. Reading is fundamental and a great way to keep your mind sharp! You can read books, journals, articles, and listen to audio books and podcasts. There are many benefits to reading daily whether you are reading about finance, science fiction, horror, comedy, etc. Reading is an awesome stress reliever because it sort of takes you away from reality for a short time. It builds stronger memory and increases your overall knowledge because you are exposed to new information.

I personally do not watch a ton of television, especially during the work week, because I prefer to listen to podcasts or just read random articles online. I noticed that when I watch certain shows I tend to get a little anxiety and, I am unable to finish the episode that I was watching. Reading helps calm my anxiety in most instances. Since this is a personal finance blog, here is a list of some of my favorite podcasts, books, and websites with money related content:

Evaluate Your Group of Friends

This might be tough for some people but it is extremely important to be selective with your group of friends. Do your friends reflect your values? Are you inspired by them? Are you able to talk about wealth building or personal and professional goals with your friends? Do they celebrate your accomplishments with you? These are some questions you can ask yourself as you reflect on your current relationships. I mean, who wants to be friends with people who are negative and not supportive? Sometimes, we even evolve from friends we had in grade school or college as we become the person we truly are meant to be in this world. I have been through many friendships and have broken off friendships. I noticed that some people just did not inspire me anymore or were negative and hurtful. It is important to have healthy relationships with people as you navigate through your wealth journey because it will get very daunting at times and you will need the support. It is okay to be selfish when it comes to who you let into your circle.

In all, your physical and mental health are top priority as you climb up the ladder to reach the personal finance goals you have set for the short term and the long term. We will all work long days and nights at times but we can all try to incorporate these healthy suggestions into our lives for our own well-being. Live your best healthy millionaire lifestyle and have fun doing it!
